Red, White and Rosé, my three favorite colors. I have and (probably) always will prefer white wine to red. Even in winter, I will always opt for a Sancerre over a Rioja. I tried to fall in love with red wine while living in Spain as 90% of the time that’s what my friends preferred. And these were not just any bottles of red – these were the best Spain had to offer. These were vintages and were meant to be savored and enjoyed with the right food pairings – these were the creme de la creme but still, I wasn’t a fan. Red Wine to me, has always been heavy and hearty and I prefer crisp and refreshing.  However, as I am learning more about wine, I am realizing I don’t want to just stick to only what I know. So, in 2018 I’m branching out and inviting more reds into my life. Lauren, is very pro-red wine and has been pushing me to open bottles with her for years. I got her into white so it’s only fair I go to the dark side for her. Last night, I put the documentary SOMM: Into the Bottle on for the third time and it never gets old. The amount of knowledge and dedication sommeliers need to pass the exam is extraordinarily impressive. I certainly can’t imagine myself at that level but I do want to learn and be able to truly speak about a variety of wines and regions.

What are some of your favorite reds you think I should try? Do you need recommendations on whites? I’ll be adding a wine of the week to the blog beginning in February so please, bring on the recommendations!

Until then,
