sesame noodles

It seems like when I get hungry it happens instantly. I go from not hungry to hunger pains in 0.2 seconds. It can be rough, especially when I know I have a big meal to make! This recipe from Gwyneth Paltrow’s It’s All Easy is another gem because it definitely was made for the fast lane. I already had Tamari, Toasted Sesame Oil, Mirin, Furikake seasoning and sesame seeds from the Kimchi Fried Rice recipe I made recently. I bought noodles and I was in business. Boil them per instructions on the box and set aside. In a small bowl,…

coqauvin

Consider this a bucket list item crossed off. From the name of the dish to the final product it exudes opulence and sophistication. Of course, any excuse to use wine in cooking, well, is an excuse I don’t need but if I have a reason I’m happy nonetheless. The night I made this dish, was perfect. I received a call from my dear friend Susan in Scotland just before I began cooking. Her melodious voice, so good to hear, was inspiring to me. You know those moments when someone tells you something you need to hear the exact moment you…

chickensouvlaki

I don’t much about Greek food apart from Feta and Spanakopita. I enjoy it but don’t always seek it out when in the kitchen. That is until I opened up Jamie Oliver’s Cookbook and there it was. He has an entire chapter on Greece and this dish looked simple and delicious. It had me wishing I was enjoying this in Cyprus and not in my living room, but what can you do? The ingredients are simple and it took me only about thirty minutes to make from start to finish.

As is the theme of this blog (so it seems) I invite people over for dinner quite often. I love being the hostess with the mostess, I truly do. However, I can’t just do “simple”. If I try and do “simple” it’s just to make it look like it didn’t take any time to whip up! Which kind of defeats the purpose. Kind of like a woman takes hours to get ready to make it look like she just rolled out of bed. I want things to be perfect. I want guests to feel comfortable and relaxed, I want the…

shrimpfriedrice

Another Gwyneth recipe. What can I say? It’s just too easy. This one, especially so. I rarely cook Asian cuisine unless I’m making Ahi Tuna with Yuzu Ponzu. I love fried rice but was too intimidated to try and make it. I figured that ordering take away would be heaps better and easier. This recipe proved me wrong and even though I had it last night I would happily eat it all again today.

parmesan encrusted chicken recipe

When I get to repurpose things, I get excited! No waste, and a bonus of enjoying the same thing twice. After I made Chicken Souvlaki the other night I had a plethora of tzatziki sauce leftover and it was too good not to keep. I was making parmesan encrusted chicken and was just going to whip up a side of whatever I could find in the fridge. It was a long day and I wasn’t in much of a mood to cook to be honest. I decided to scroll through Instagram hoping an image would spark an idea when I…

cheese course

Having friends over to dinner is in my top three of favorite things. I get so much joy out of cooking for people and lately out of sharing this cooking project experience with them. Monday night Cory was to come over. Cory has been a friend for a few years now but I haven’t cooked just for him. He’s no stranger to great food and so I pulled him away from his usual spot at the Riegar to come over for some home cooking.

Gwyneth Paltrow, love her or loathe her, the woman can cook. Admittedly, between Julia Child and Jacque Pepin is ‘It’s All Easy’ by Gwyneth. On the cover she’s smiling ear to ear with a basket in her hand, dressed in what is probably an $800 sweater, casually holding a wooden box brimming with tri-colored vegetables.  It has all the making of a great cookbook. Parisian Chef-friend and editor (Thea Baumann), beautiful images of said recipes, somewhat easy to find ingredients – it’s all there. We had an impromptu dinner tonight with neighbors coming over; one for the first time the…

blackbeanburger

Bob’s Burgers is genuinely one of my favorite shows on television right now. It’s got everything a good show needs- humor, wit, drama, love, puns and good food. Not being one for cartoon shows, I’m not even sure how I got into watching this but I am so grateful I did. The characters are endearing and Linda, the matriarch of the Belcher clan, loves wine as much as I do so I feel we are kindred spirits. The part I look forward to each episode is the ‘Bob’s Burger of the Day’ written on the chalkboard to amuse and delight.…

shrimpericripert

New Year’s Eve feels electric, buzzy, exciting – a new year, a new slate, a new dish. My own tradition is not surprising given my love of all things decadent and food-related. I simply must eat a delicious meal on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The last day of the year and the first day of the new must be met with a tasty bite. Going out to dinner is usually preferred; less hassle, no mess to clean up but this year I threw out the idea of overpriced prie-fixed menus and opted to create my own Michelin…
